“Magic is believing in yourself, if you can do that, you can make anything happen.” ― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
You were born to stand out.
I recently returned from a Women on Fire retreat in Miami Beach, Florida. The theme was Time to make your magic happen. 140 of the most incredible women gathered to to learn from and listen to one another. Founded by Debbie Phillips, this was the 9th annual retreat and this years phenomenal keynote speaker was none other than the incredible Marianne Williamson.
Marianne and Debbie both charged us with the quest for finding our magic. Are you leading your life with your magic? This caused moments for pause and reflection. Magic is activated by service. Magic is something that works through you and you freely give it away. Your career may be your job, but when your job is also your ministry there lies the magic!
Marianne signing a WOF 2017 Calendar – July was paired with one of her quotes and one of my photos.
On the first day of the retreat we were notified that there would an opportunity for ten attendees to hit the podium for a open mic discussing our newly claimed magic. It is not usually my modus operandi to speak publicly, but I signed up right away. At the time, I had no idea of what I was going to talk about. I just knew that I needed to own it once I figured it out!
The last morning arrived all to quickly. I was the third speaker and my nerves were starting to set in. Finally it was my turn. Summarizing what I said…
What is your ministry? Who do you serve? In my photography business my lens is an extension of my heart. I lead each session I book with love. When Marianne reminded us to be the fairy godmother, and not wait for her to appear in our lives, it hit me.
My ears listen to the wishes of my clients – helping my eyes and heart capture the meaningful moments through my camera. For years my bio has read, Amy loves to collaborate with her clients.
Simply defined Collaborate, a verb :
work jointly on an activity, especially to produce or create something.
When we collaborate, we are the magic! Without a doubt we are stronger together.
I’ve known for years that my choice to be a photographer had meaning and was something I could leave behind long after I am gone, but now I know with the utmost clarity, why I do what I do. For that I am grateful.
What is your magic and how are you sharing that with others?
